Terms of use

A reference site about South African traffic penalties. It reads the instruments — the Act, the amending Act, the regulations and the commencement proclamations — and sets out what they say, with the provision cited beside each claim.

It is not a law firm, not an advice service and not connected to any issuing authority, municipality, court or licensing office. Nothing on it is legal advice, and using it does not create any relationship between you and its publisher.

Every figure on this site is transcribed from a primary instrument that is cited on the page it appears on. That is a real claim and it is checkable: the citation names the provision, not just the Act.

Two limits go with it, and both are stated rather than buried. The first is staleness: a proclamation, a regulation or a schedule can change, and a change made recently may not be reflected here yet. The second is that none of these figures has been through this site’s own final review and sign-off — they are researched, not confirmed, and the notice in the footer says so on every page until that changes.

Where a figure decides something for you, the binding one is the amount on your own notice or the instrument itself, not this site’s reading of it.

This site does not publish a per-offence amount, a penalty-unit count, a demerit-point count or a charge code for any individual infringement, because the schedule that carries them is published in parts of the Government Gazette that could not be retrieved from any source tried. It will not fill that gap from a third-party transcription.

It also publishes no national figure for the route outside AARTO, because no national figure exists, and it says nothing at all about tolerance in speed measurement, because the instruments searched state neither a margin nor the absence of one.

This site holds no records and asks for no identity number, driving licence number, notice reference, number plate or date of birth. It renders no lookup form. If a page claiming to be this site asks you for any of those, it is not this site.

The site is provided as it is. Its publisher accepts no liability for a decision taken on the basis of anything here rather than on the basis of the instrument itself or the document you were served. That is not boilerplate in this context: the whole subject of this site is documents with deadlines attached, and the one in your hand governs.

Where this site names an official service it links to it directly, with no interstitial and no attempt to keep you here. It does not control those services and is not responsible for what they publish or for their availability.
